This is the first generalist book I have really got into since wanting to learn about Australia 'properly'. This book is really good, I am recommend it to everyone. It is pitched at the right level (undergrad. or similar) and looks in reasonable depth (the book is approx 300 pages) at topics such at: family and kinship, religion, environment, colonialism, welfare, economics, population, identity and finally selfe determination.
It cites a lot of references at the end of each chapter and although this book is over ten years old, I think it is a good start for anyone wanting to learning about Indiginous Australia. Not to mention, it does not make that fatal mistake of lumping all indiginous peoples together into one catagory.
