So I'm sitting here at the "Roper Bar" alone (where are you Ed ??) - better get this intro under way and then maybe some of you will join me...

I'm Peter Lister. I'm approaching 50 faster than I anticipated but quite happy to be doing so. I live in Sydney, Australia and I know a few of you out there. Haven't been a part of such a forum in a while but my interest in aspects of traditional Yolngu culture and music has not abated in recent years.

I have in the past produced web content that some of you may have seen at manikay.com. I may in fact have an interest in too many facets of the North. I work at a university and specialize in Aussie botany so am fascinated by Yolngu plant use in all its' forms - not just for music. I have also been a student of Yolngu languages and culture at Charles Darwin Uni and a very fortunate visitor to Yolngu communities, although not in the last 3 years...

I'm pleased to see the creation of this new forum - thanks Guan !! and am looking forward to stimulating discussions and debate and hope that I can make a small contribution. Most of all, looking forward to learning more,

regards, Peter.

Hello everyone, my name is Mrs. Lindo, and I'm an American who just discovered Mr. G. Yunupingu. I heard one of his songs on you tube and was blown away. I play it constantly. I've never been to Australia, but it is a dream of mine to go one day. I read everything that I can on native Australian culture, and I'm fascinated by it. This is my first post, and I'm looking forward to learning more.

Welcome Mrs. Lindo. Where in VA are you from? My wife and I lived in Shenandoah County for seven years, and just recently moved to PA.

Guan- I LOVE the avatar! It suits you well, mate. Smile

Hey Jason,

Thanks mate, I created the avatar in weemee world or something like that for video conferencing after having had my first video conferencing experience with Chris. Hi Chris! And talking about video conferencing, just the other day Jeremy Cloake put me onto Skype and gave me email instructions on what to do to use it. Ok, I'm a bit of a dummy sometimes when it comes to doing new things. This old dog ain't learning too many new tricks these days Sad

I gotta say Skype was great, it seems better than iChat. Jeremy showed me around his place in New Zealand, through the in-built webcam in his laptop, I showed Jeremy pics from a catalogue and talked artifacts and stuff. I'm going to bump up my broadband monthly allowance for next month as video conferencing sure eats up bandwidth, and with Dharra'puy all set to start his artist-in-residency and video chatting with people overseas, I'm going to need plenty of Gigabytes soon.

I think my avatar kinda looks like me... my hair is sorta standing up in different angles, I wear flip-flops and shorts when I can get away with it, and I like orange Very Happy

Guan

ididjoz in Skype and iChat.

Can't talk tonight though, I'm in the middle of finishing off a DVD project commissioned by Multicultural Arts Victoria and I'm gunning to have it done by tomorrow morning. Might be an all-nighter for me, hurray!
