I think I got my epiphany today with regards to NE Arnhem Land yidaki playing. How do you play with dexterity and speed yet without the 'lispy' tonguing give-away? I got a sudden breakthrough a moment ago, having listened to Larry Winiwini and Adam Marrilaga for much of the day and thinking about their explanations... The trick is to mask the tongued accents so that they have a blunt edge... that way you can play with speed without the overly crisp sound of tongue slapping the back of your teeth. More tomorrow...

Maybe the "air-cushion" behind the lips is part of the masking? Surprised

Hmmm.... let me make another recording and I'll try to think what I'm doing different. Air flow through the mouth is important, where you channel the air and what sort of pressure you apply to it.
