Hey folks

I have been trawling the net (Boom boom!!!) for a good book about Redfern-waterloo in Sydney but to no avail. Can any kind soul suggest a good book about the politics of the area?

Many thanks.

Hi Dan,

Redfern is an important historic phenomenon and there's bound to be heaps of stuff written about it. Try this for starters:

Guwanyi: Stories of the Redfern Aboriginal Community. This is a small 36 booklet published in 1996.

For something heavier and more controversial, try:

Snake Cradle by Roberta Sykes. 'Tis all about politics, political action, radicalism, and activism, and includes the turbulents 1960s-70s era and the Aborignal Embassy action. You can find this as part of Snake Dreaming, which contains 3 parts: Snake Cradle, Snake Dreaming and Three Snake Circle.

If you're interested in Koori politics and the role of Redfern in political action, this is a good place to start.

Also, look for stuff that Gary Foley has written.

I owe you a beer mate! Thanks very much.

(And on another topic, I am still deciding what to else purchase at the same time as when I buy 10 Canoes off the iDidj website).

Thanks a lot Guan,

Dan
