I'm new on this execellent forum, I'm from Denmark, and not that good at english writing - hope you understand me

I have read this book MUTANT MESSAGE DOWN UNDER, and I find it very good, but then the other day I found this on the Internet.

In short therms the thing written in the link is about that Marlo Morgan is a cheater and never has done the trip and just have made the book for profit. It is very hard for me to belive.

Hope you can help me about this Rumour.

Yep, purely a work of fiction- and a bad one at that! But more of the controversy surrounding this book is her appropriation of certain facets of Aboriginal culture and misrepresenting them, much in the same way that the Western 'cowboy' film genre misrepresents Lakota and Apache, i.e

Most people will look at this book and her 'memoir' of her alleged time spent with Central Desert people(since exposed as being a lie) as being a true representation of Aboriginal culture and spirituality, when in actuality it is a waste of time.

This is one of those books that is better if everyone forgot about it and it didn't exist. I don't recommend anyone reading it as it is a waste of time...

yep, she is a major fake and despite being exposed during the court case bought agianst her by Aboriginal people in central Oz whom she defamed, she managed to publish a second book !! I recall passage in her book where tells of how she was given sandals by these people in the desert that were made of platypus skins !! While desert people here certainly made bark asandals they wouldn't have been using platypus as this is an animal confined to the coasts and ranges near the coast - like a beaver, it inhabitats mountain streams !!

True Peter, and if I remember correctly there's a section where they 'find a hollow branch' lying on the ground and start playing it as a didgeridoo at one of their telepathic dance sessions. Quite preposterous really!

And thank for you welcome Guan - i'll read a lot on this forum, and write a little - my english is horribel . This forum is just so great - points direct to my greatest hobby - playing the didgeridoo.

There is many thing in the book that now make sence. It is not possibel to heal a leg like they did, and there i many many other things that now make sence. It is a good story but im so dissapointet that she had used the aboriginals just for making money.

It is almost like someone belived that Lord of the Rings is a true story
