Djalu and family have indicated to me that there will be no Yirdaki Masterclass at the Garma Festival for 5 years following the recent passing away of fellow Masterclass teacher and convenor, Mr M. Mununggurr. I've been asked to help organise and promote Djalu's independent Masterclass workshop which we are hoping to have about 2 weeks before Garma.

The proposal is to host around 20 fee-paying participants for the Rripangu Yirdaki Masterclass from 21st July-27th July 2008. The cost is expected to be AUD$1800-2000 per person and includes transportation in and around Gove, food, camping style accommodation in tents, yidaki making and playing tuition, bush trips, hunting expeditions, and anything else that might come up. The number of participants, cost, and date are tentative and will be clearer closer to the Masterclass.

Expressions of interest are sought now so please email me or send a private message to me if you are planning on coming to Arnhem Land next year. Numbers are limited and it is strictly first come first serve.

Ok, Djalu's Rripangu Yirdaki Masterclass is confirmed and we're now accepting bookings and payment. I think we've pretty much hit the 20 people limit with the number of expressions of interest in the past weeks/months. There will be Aussies, Europeans, Japanese, Americans... good bunch of people and probably the most intense gathering of trad heads ever!

Heres a sugestion Guan why dont you video it and with Djalus permision sell copies aftarwards to those who cant afford to get all the way to Arnhem Land and some proseeds to go back to the family/community? As it would be a good opportunity missed to get good quality footage of the master boyh culturally and anthropologically. Id defo buy a copy

Hello there, here's a one other GREAT mind............hahaha. No serious, Guan we all know that the camera is glued to your hand and is rolling. So this time make some extra bucks with it and make the ones happy who for what ever reason can not attend this wonderful meeting, but like to be part of it.

Though I'm still trying to find and figure out a way to get me self on film by your hands on Ga:luru beach! The Djalu's Rripangu Yirdaki Masterclass entré fee I can pay. Bud damm those thirsty Glued to gather ALU birds, they are not coming cheap these day's.

Was curious and tried to add a poll to this but didnt work (hate computers) as to who would buy a copy if ever made available to give guan an idea as to see if its a good idea. And also could be used in part to fill in some gaps for beginers from Hard toung to Djalu teaches CD I dont know just a thought. or maybe with comprehensive translations into actual mouth frazes etc without a stick etc

I haven't had much luck figuring out how to do polls either

But regardless, I would imagine a DVD like this would be a specialist thing and we'd be lucky to move 100 units. I'll still film it of course, but putting in the time and money to produce something for the public, well, it's gonna take time and money...

The production cost might be rather low, as much of the editing can be done quite easily on consumer programs such as iMovie. If such a venture is being considered, I can volunteer my services in designing any DVD album art. Perhaps a limited release would be a good way to minimize costs, if we decide to move forward with such a production.

And I also dont think that people would object if it was produced domestically maybe burned on an order by order basis. I would be hapy with that and wouldnt cost that much to produce bar time and the initial editing side of things. I would buy a copy on this side of things.

Indeed this will be for a small audience! But time and money are relative!. For starters, yes it will take time, but I'm offering time, hands, my wired arty nut and expertise since I'm proficient enough on my PowerMac with the following editing packages: FinalCut Pro, Motion, Soundtrack, Compressor and DVDstudio Pro. And if we want to go fancy there's the option to use 3D to boost it all up with some nice composite. So we all know you-re a perfectionist but this production doesn't have to be the "National Geographic" standard nor HD or Bleu Ray quality. Most off us out there are already comfortable with the YouTube standards. Off course, in my humble opinion I like to produce ad High Quality (it's a habit).

Secondly, is the brilliant idea off Stockie to get a poll for this so we know how much people are interested. Third, we can ask the interested if they could help us to finance this project by paying in advance for copy (DVD) off the Djalu's Rripangu Yirdaki Masterclass experience?

the quality is the easy bit with some flash editing I think even if the quality is broadcast standard I think Guan is worried about the actual production of the hard media itself hence doing it from home on a pc I would be willing to burn coppies for exapmle for Europe as I cant see that many people wanting it just going into my loft and hitting burn on Nero (once ive figured it out) or even as a down load on Divx or MP3 most dvd players these days play this type of file

has anyone had any further thoughts on this?
