Thanks Jason,
I highly recommend it.
It is a nice complement to other styles and techniques.
Cheers, M

Sweet! Nice job Martin, love those toots too. The tongued attacks could be more forceful but other than that sounds pretty good to me.

Thanks Guan,

Apart from the interesting rhythmic structure, one of the things I
find really challenging in this style are the toots. They are often
on the off-beat, but the more challenging thing is a type of toot that
I had not met before (or at least it seems that way to my ear and
to my attempts to reproduce the sound). They appear to come after
a tongued accent, from a rapid pressure change in the mouth that
creates a pop that originates almost in the throat and produces a slurred toot.
The impact part of Peter's sample that he posted above also appears to
use a similar technique.

In Songs from Northern Territory 4. you can hear it clearly in track 10, 4th piece which
starts at about 3:00 min. The piece is Aeroplane, yiraga by Nanbungwa.
In Moyle's notes this is referred to as a slurred upfigure..

Cheers, Martin

Interesting mate, let me take a listen.

On another note, do people here know about the CD "Aboriginal music from Groote Eylandt and Bickerton Island, Australia"? It is a CD dedicated entirely to the music of this region, lots of didgeridoo of course Smile

I gave Martin a copy of this a few months back, which I'm sure has aided in his study of the playing techniques!

Hi Peter - All

I took some time to listen to the S.F.N.T. series recently as well ( really great stuff ) and came across an interesting discovery ( for me anyway ). I'm a big Kate Bush fan and noticed that the sample of someone speaking that she uses at the end of her song "The Dreaming" comes from this series. I have vinyl copies of this series so it may be a bit different from the cd's but she definitely uses a sample of Naubilia ( Nabilya ) speaking - I believe about "Aeroplane" - which is the fourth song on the fourth track from the fourth album in the series - Groote Eylandt. ( The actual sample is taken from the last track on the fourth cd/album) I've always wondered from where she took this sample - and now I know! I don't have a vinyl copy of "The Dreaming" and the cd does not give credit but I will look into it...........Just a small bit of music trivia.

BTW - I also agree....... "Aboriginal music from Groote Eylandt and Bickerton Island, Australia" is terrific..............

That's all.

Although it should be paired with Afterlife Before Genesis by David H Turner, it comes with the next book in the series Genesis Regained which you should be able to find on amazon or similar. I would suggest getting both books as they're interesting reads.

Martin - I look forward to it!

I have a few spare copies. Like Kyle said, it comes with a book but I am also selling them separately as I got a whole bunch of them many years ago when I realised the importance of the recording.
