Most people interested in didgeridoo might have come across a booklet by the same name, "Gunbarrk Garra", done by Nigel 'Bolda' Hunter some years ago. The blurb for this DVD goes something like this:
Quote:
Allow Bolda to take you through the Traditional process of learning Gunbarrk (Didjeridoo) in Jawoyn Contry. This Dvd is unique in its ways of allowing the viewer to journey through the rituals of going into Sacred Country, the painting of Ochre for protection, singing to the Ancestors letting them know of your presence, and a breakdown of the lessons in the art of playing the Gunbarrk using Traditional rhythms. Accompanying this Dvd is an 8 page removable Booklet describing the Lesson's.
Trad heads might find some interesting things in this DVD particularly Nigel as a character. He really is a unique individual! The DVD itself could be a lot stronger culturally and I've expressed a desire to see more cultural content and Jawoyn having greater participation in future DVDs produced in the area. Short excerpts on YouTube below:
am I right in thinking that this is a teaching DVD as well as an introduction to the the cultuar how much is the DVD as I think I might like a copy. as a teaching tool does it teach anything different to the Mago master class CD by Darrel?

Hi Stockie,
The DVD is selling retail for up to $35, but I'm offering them for $20 just to get them moving. There are tuition lessons there, a little bit of cultural insight.

Hi there,
and what's the zoning of the DVD ?
Could it play on European players ? (French?)
I don't know what the zoning is, there is nothing written on the cover so I assume that it is multizone or zone-free. I'll try to find out more!
Nigel by the way is an identity in the Top End that most hardcore Australian people interested in trad would know. He's been around the traps for a long time, knows Jawoyn really well, etc. etc. Marcos can probably tell you guys more about him.
Just got my greasy mits on this and played it half way through and I think so far its a good dvd and would be a good way into mago playing for newbies and old school alike

finished watching it this morning and one final point I think Bolda could have gone into a bit more detail about more trad rythms his people/country use and also broke down his owen personal rythms would have been a help as well but all in all a good DVD
