My dream is to visit Australia. I know that I can't see the whole place in ten days, but I do want to just touch the soil. I'm a mom of two young adults and one teenager. Whats the best advice that you all can give me about planning a trip there? We all love history, and we are working on making this happen in the next six months. I live in the U.S. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

May be worth looking into an organised trip of a whistle stop variety as your fellow country people do to europe ie thursday france, friday belgum etc, I know there are trips such as this available in Oz, there is as well an organisation centred around Manigreda arts center who do various packages in the top end relating to aborigional culture ie 4 day bush tucker trip into the bush or a 4 day arts trip looking at rock art and visiting wotrking artizans in the top end which may be cool. I think there is a link on the Maningrida arts center web page.

I have contacted the guys there in the past and are very helpful I believe however they are very remote and I would think you would need to get a visa to do these trips which I believe are simple to sort out do that plus a couple of days in sydney or the barrier reef. happy travels

Nope, no visas required for tourists from the USA, I think for up to three months.

I haven't looked at it myself for ages and I probably said something I'd be embarrassed about now, but maybe check out the little journal I put up about my first visit to Australia in 1999. Should still be there at www.gingerroot.com/oztrip.

There's more tourism in remote Aboriginal land all the time. The most established business around here is Bawaka tours. Bawaka's definitely up there on the list of most gorgeous places in the world. They'll even take you to visit Yirrkala Arts before or after. Wink

A little article with some info...
