Two things - we're struggling to get good quality CD & DVD packaging material up here (sometimes I miss the ease of online shopping in the USA) so we're calling everything pre-order now, but our new DVD Nhäma! Short Films from Yirrkala Northeast Arnhem Land is now in stock so those of you wanting to stake a claim can do so on our new under construction online store. Act quick, we're rapidly selling out - although we will reprint. But due to large licensing cost for one of the Chooky Dancers' songs, I'm going to cut their bit shorter in future reprintings, This link should take you straight to the item:

The main reason the store has been rushed online despite still being a bit rough and the lack of shipping materials is...
(drum roll)
...the DVD contains part of the Wandjuk Marika Memorial 3D Work Prize winner in the 2008 Telstra National Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Art Awards, announced last night. Early this year, batty old Nyapanyapa Yunupingu painted a bark with the story of when she was attacked by a feral water buffalo in the mid-1970s. The Mulka Project made a short film of her telling the story. This made up Yirrkala's and the Art Award's first 3D work entry consisting of traditional media plus modern digital media, and the judges said they had absolutely no choice in the matter. I'm only sad that it beat out a really gorgeous set of sculptures by another artist Buku-Larrnggay represents! But it was fantastic to be there with the old lady at the awards. I wish all the Yolngu involved in the film could have been there as well.
Look! News articles!

Sorry to make this post even longer, but I just have to say how proud I am of the Mulka Project, one year old, to, among other successes I won't list here, be part of a win at the national Aboriginal art awards. Our sponsors are gonna be happy about this, and maybe keep us alive another few years.

Do you have any comments on favorites or what you'd like to see more of? I'd guess that yidaki players would want to see more like 'Gumatj Bunggul' but a bit more detailed. We had 3 and even 4 camera shoots of all the song and dance at Garma this year, with a camera dedicated to the singers and yidaki players. I'd think that'd be good for yidaki fans, to see the dance, see the musicians - the whole thing together for a change.
Really, we'll present whatever the community comes up with, but I would like to hear what you like and would like more of, and then hopefully you can see the results of your input next year.

Bunggul footage would be superb, but I'm just thrilled to be able to see projects like this coming together! Despite some minor flaws in videography, the Yirrkala Dhapi footage is awesome to see. _________________ www.jdidj.com

My favorites have been : Two Brothers at Galarra ( the way the story was depicted and acted out and the music of course) and Lost Boy found. Besides, the stories such as that from Gatapanawuy are also noteworthy. _________________ no matter how thin you chop, it has always two faces!!!
