Hi Guan

sounds good to me my friend and I especially love the dog barking in the back ground to me gives it a total feel of feild recordings. (and did you check out my mago posting on you tube?)

speaking of which is there any more news on more relieases from either manigrida or the old feild recordings from The Indigenous Music of Australiaafter the first Wurrurrumi Kun-borrk release.

also has anyone heard or got any of the 2 realeses from the Ghunmarn/Beswick mob of Sunshine After Rain or songs from walking with spirits?

Hi Stockie,

The 'field recording' was done in my backyard a couple of hour ago, I did it for Mahir really as he wanted to hear a particular stick being played. The neighbour's dog must like didgeridoo :D

I'll post something whenever there are new recordings, no worries! Fleur is on here and can advise on Beswick stuff.

Cheers,

Guan

Sounds nice Guan. Simple rhythm and a nice clean execution.
Hope the days aren't as torrid as they were a couple of weeks ago.

Teetoo, the download of your file is really slow but the part I heard sounded good. Less impact at the beginning of the
dit a mo than what you can hear on Guans, and also for the mixing of voice and mago try to imitate more the sound that Guan makes, or the Various Darryl DIkkarna Brown videos that Guan has put up on youtube.

cheers, M

Hey Guan, if that's fading, give me some of that fading  Great sound! How long does it take to play like that?

Hi Merril,

If you've got circular breathing already and know the basics, trying WAL style is not that hard. Listen to a lot of recordings and you should be able to get a resemblance to this style very quickly, in one sitting probably, but to refine your technique might take a weekend or two of focussed attention. You can upload a recording and we can give you some help too :D

Good luck,

Guan

Hi, Guan
Comparing your recording and mine, one can say that i didn't made the stick "chanting" strong with the right vocal key to "light" it; that's it?

Not sure what you mean by strong chanting, can you explain? Listen to some of Darryl's playing on YouTube, that will give you an idea how WAL style is played. Check this one out:

Good luck and let us know if we can help further!

Hi Francis,

Oh, ok!

It isn't really singing into the mago, but more about vocables, what the tongue is doing. The Mago Masterclass CD explains a bit of it. Dit-a-mo, dit-a-mo, dit-a-mo...

I think Teetoo meant "singing" in a metaphoric way : making the didj sing, like playing it really well and smooth.

Ok, no probs. A lot depends on the stick being played too, different instruments sound different. His stick sounds like a good one, so I guess more practice! Push with the tongue, expel the air forcefully from the mouth with each downstroke or forward movement of the tongue. Really push, but not too hard. It is not a natural tongue movement used in talking, so that's where practice comes in...
