iDIDJ Australia Didgeridoo Cultural Hub

I am very troubled that this page does not seem to include the APPROPRIATE circumstances in which the didjeridoo may be used. I am concerned that this is another VIOLATION of Indigenous culture, firstly by white Australians who know better, secondly by gullible and naive internationals who may not.

1 The didjeridoo is not to be played by women
2 the didjeridoo should not be ornamented by sacred images

I am one of the people helping to put together the forthcoming didgeridu festival and Peter has suggested I engage with you on something;

Women playing didgeridu.

I'm aware of sensitivities around the issue, and also about the power of good that I think would inevitably come if Djalu were able to make a public statement that he was comfortable with on the matter. As an elder from an area traditional to didgeridu it would be a great act of reconcilation and would play a part in liberating half the population would on the issue.

Can you possibly canvas it with him?

Given the health benefits of didge for respiratory problems and sleeping problems, in my better hypothetical world I hope that all Australian children will one day have the opportunity to learn it.

If it is considered too risky I am prepared to postpone the matter.

There have been similar developments within my specialty area of throat singing. Women used to be banned from throat singing in Tibet until enlightened forces (which may have included the Dalai Lama) changed the policy and other places like Tuva where women were told (the familar story) that they might have babies with three heads and that sort of thing. Yet Canadian Inuit and South African Xhosa women are the ones who throat sing there.

I certainly don't want to put any noses out of joint but any developments and clarifications would be precious.

Hard to believe there are 80,000+ Didj players in Europe and a Didj Fest every two weeks - why not in Oz too?

??? I'm curious to know where you got those stats from ?
And do you have a list of the at least 25 European Didj Fests ? (15x25=375days)
I think these figures are way over-estimated !
