This section on Language and Linguistics aims to provide you with some resources to help you better understand Indigenous languages of the Top End of Australia, and languages in general. Note that most of these resources are produced by non-Indigenous people and their accuracy thus not guaranteed. Be mindful also that using Indigenous languages - either verbally or in written form - may cause offence to some Indigenous people for a variety of reasons. These reasons may include clumsiness in our attempts to speak or write it, resulting in mispronunciation and/or misunderstandings. To Indigenous people, language is also a key part of personal and collective identity, something that is owned. Be aware that there are Indigenous people who might not want to share their languages, and others who do.
