So, what do we make out of this apology now??

Needless to say that it is probably wonderful and should have been done much earlier but I can't help notice the following

''Blackfellas will get the words, the whitefellas keep the money''

Noel Pearson
Aboriginal leader

Despite my cynical quotes above.......................... I can say I was very moved by the speech of prime minister Rudd and ad the same time too see so much emotion, tears and sorrow from so many families for so many years. It sounded very sincere "no twisting no turning". Just taking responsibility. He (covernment) is acting as a care taker.......... He even dared to drop the BOMB in his own house.

3 more sleeps before The Apology, this will be remembered as the day Australia matured as a modern nation. Very exciting stuff for me to belong to this generation.........

Guan my friend you are now a full member off a matured modern nation......Australia

Thanks Chris! It was an emotional day yesterday, the apology was delivered with sincerity and feeling and everyone felt it. I did not think I would witness an event like this in my lifetime...

Mahir, it is only the start, hopefully. Rudd seems like a person with intelligence, a frenetic work ethic, and a good heart. There's time yet for more healing and the journey continues, but the main hurdle has been overcome now.

It is a nice feeling waking up to a new Australia today...

For those who missed the occasion, here are some YouTube videos which I recorded.

Rudd's 360 word formal apology

The end of Rudd's speech, before the Opposition Leader's reply. Shows crowd response to Rudd's speech. Then cuts to the passing of the motion by the House of Representatives

Yep, that was an emotional speech. for sure.
An example to be followed for one of the other countries, which are not clear with few parts of their history, like my country. The strange thing is that this "sorry day" was not mediatized in France, even if K. Rudd made a very strong act, a universal act.
I hope it's just the begining for the Aborigines.
Bravo Rudd, bravo Australia.

Thanks Guan for posting the videos. Really emotional stuff.

This is a big step. That does not mean that the work is finished, in fact it has just begun.
But for me, personally, it is the first time in quite a few years that something positive
on this scale has happened in Australia and I have the impression that it really is a turning point
in the history of our country.

Cheers, Martin
