Hello U Garawirrtjaboys!

i listen to and deejay whatever that sounds good, from xperimental jazz to the deadliest drum'n'bass... and yeah, hip hop as well... the Roots, Jay Dee (rip), A Tribe Called Quest, Mos Def, Guru, Mad Lib are some of my favs... much better than that "west coast" stuff you mob like listening to, ha, ha! just joking!

But up Spain way we've got a kind of music called flamenco... u know that one??? well, some old men singing very deeply, not about land, or in any case about the land they lost soooo many years ago, but specially about beauty, about fear, about fishing, about religion, about love, about pain... about life i pressume! some dancers and little instrumentation, classic guitar and a percussion box perhaps, but always clapping and tapping as they dance... one songman, sometimes two... not the same, of course, but sometimes the very old one reminds me a lot of some of your old music... It's worthwhile a listen!!!!

Hi garawirrtjaboys ,
pleased to meet you.
I listen to all sorts of music (like the others here). Just that we all have a bit of a passion for playing and listening to the yidaki as well. Smile
My favourites are classical stuff - Stravinsky, Berlioz, Berg, Beethoven - they all rock. Then I love harder rock and punk rock. Some recent stuff that I listen too system of a down, Tool, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds,
Grinderman is awesome. Dirty Three. Yothu Yindi, Saltwater Band and really like Nabarlek - they have some great tunes.
And then Reggae of all types, and what one calls world music. I listen to a lot of yidaki music too.
Here towards the eastern part of Europe there is a very strong traditional music, often with brass bands (but not the english type marching band stuff) much louder and exciting. This music is especially important for weddings and funerals and all other festivals. It is really powerful and worth a listen. Some bands are Fanfare Ciocarlia, Kocani Orkestar, and recently on youtube you can find a really enjoyable and funny one called Mambo Siria.

ciao!
Martin

check tis out Too deadly ay? me and other boys made this song

Russian gurls are pretty
Japanese gurls are smart
But it takes a Yolngu gurl to win a guys heart
South American gurls are tan
Some gurls are hoes
But when you want the best looking gurl
Elcho Island is were you go
White girls are wild
Black girls are fun
But Galiwin'ku gurls are always No 1
Gurls will be gurls
North, east, south or west
But Yolngu gurls are the ones
Who always rate the best
To any guy who hears this and truly wants to know
If you have a Elcho Island gurl you should never let here go

dhapirrk true!

anyone got a love song to share ideas?

Hi garawirrtjaboys

This is really cool thanks for sharing with us on this forum this is the first time I personnaly have had direct contact with anyone from yolngu world there is a saying from my part of the UK relating to saying hello to friends and Bros and that expration is "a up lad how ist thee" which basically means hello how are you.

I have to say its very funny that you guys have said that you have built Guan up into a big tree does that mean your mob have feed him up and put some meat on his bones Very Happy

Also forgot to add erlier do you play any instruments such as guitar, yidaki and if you do play yidaki are you involved in ceremony or do you just mess around with them at home

Hey Garawirrtjaboys

Its bloody good to read what you've got to say, nice to have a little window into the top end and good to hear your songs. They're a bit like the Beachboys 'California Girls' eh? Smile

Well east coast girls are hip
I really dig those styles they wear
And the southern girls with the way they talk
They knock me out when Im down there

The mid-west farmers daughters really make you feel alright
And the northern girls with the way they kiss
They keep their boyfriends warm at night

I wish they all could be california
I wish they all could be california
I wish they all could be california girls

The west coast has the sunshine
And the girls all get so tanned
I dig a french bikini on hawaii island
Dolls by a palm tree in the sand

I been all around this great big world
And I seen all kinds of girls
Yeah, but I couldnt wait to get back in the states
Back to the cutest girls in the world

I wish they all could be california
I wish they all could be california
I wish they all could be california girls

I wish they all could be california
(girls, girls, girls yeah I dig the)
I wish they all could be california
(girls, girls, girls yeah I dig the)
I wish they all could be california
(girls, girls, girls yeah I dig the)
I wish they all could be california
(girls, girls, girls yeah I dig the)

Like I said, its great to read your words.

Dan

good morning gentlemans well we heard sorry business here one woman pass away at milingimbi she famous artist close relations to us she wititj mob that means snake

if someone pass away we can say gathuran nganapu lundunham ngalmalingu djuyyuwan that means we send the body away today or we can say godarr yaka dhanal lundunham bapurru dhawaryuman that means we we finish the ceremony tomorrow this is dhangu lingo used by our family

every relation got sign language so when i teach you yesterday ngali yangara that yangara means leg so brother or sister is leg sign language

if someone look you from far away they cant talk you so they make sign language hey where your brother? and they can use sign language and point to leg so you know they ask you where your brother?

if brother pass away old ladys they cut their leg because their brother pass away

every body part got meaning granny is back uncle is arm poison cousin is elbow like that
