Hey guys,
A heads up for those who have broadband internet connection and want to connect with someone really special next week or the week after. If you haven't used video conferencing before, take a look at the following page:
http://www.mvldesign.com/video_conference_tutorial.html
I've already connected with Chris in New York, my first ever video conferencing experience Nice chatting with you Chris, and great playing too!

Just thought I'd add something here, which is if you have questions that is of interest to others, rather than send a private message to me, put it here so I won't have to answer the same questions multiple times
Saves time, saves bandwidth
Anyway, video conferencing is not Skype... I still haven't figured out Skype yet, I'm a bit behind with technology and am playing a catch up game trying to learn new things. Video conferencing is where you can see and talk to someone else in real-time. Follow the link above and you should get a better idea.
Is there a cost? No, not for a general chat with that someone special, but because of time constraints, obviously we won't be able to spend hours and hours with a single person. Better to spread the love around me thinks!
Who is this special someone? I don't want to spoil the suspense but if you want to try to guess, I can say "yes" or "no"...

Lets start with 3 obvious Djalu, Larry or Darryl
or if none would they be from
East or
West Arnhem land
Skype is as described above using a video cam all you need to do is down load the free software from skype dot com and configure it simple as and you can do it on a one to one video or have multiple calls just on voice

Hey Stockie,
Nope, nope and nope... try again
Actually, you're right about Skype, I forgot it does video calls too. What I was thinking of though was iChat for Mac users, and AIM for PC users. These seem to be the standard for video conferencing, but I could well be wrong as I'm not really up to speed on gadgetry and new techie things. I don't know what the advantages Skype has over iChat, or iChat over Skype. Does anyone know?

They are all a much of a muchness its just that Skype is free peer to peer IE skype to skype and just utilise the same methods its like the old adage of VHS and BETA Max videos they both do the same thing just slightly different.

Didge player, yes! Better known for playing, but all his personal instruments are ones he has made himself so he definitely has the skills to make killer sticks, of both mago and yirdaki varieties. _________________ iDIDJ Australia - Didgeridoo Cultural Hub

Not from Miwatj technically, but if you want to research a word for the person's origins, try "Gumurr-Gattjirrk". Good luck! _________________ iDIDJ Australia - Didgeridoo Cultural Hub

No. Francis Gawun is a nice guy though as are all his brothers. They're Marrangu people, sometimes also known as Wurrkiganydjarr, "wurrki" meaning flower and "ganydjarr" meaning power, so literally "Flower Power"! This is in reference to the importance of stringybark trees, their blossoms, and sugarbag honey (Yarrpany variety, Dhuwa moiety) to the group as Ancestral property/high totems. Marrangu is also the group that I've been brought into, as the first person to 'adopt' me is from that clan. So I've got a lot of time for Marrangu, they're intelligent, hard-working mob that's for sure! _________________ iDIDJ Australia - Didgeridoo Cultural Hub

Hi Jason, I gotta give you a qualified "yes" for that
The person also has Ancestral connections (sounds like Morphy's book lol!) to "Gumurr-Marthakal". Another word for you guys to research, have fun!
These phrases are basically locational/directional words, which Yolngu use to describe their orientation in relation to others. So it's like saying north, south, east and west (sounds like a Garawirrtja Boys song doesn't it? I like the song by the way guys, any chance to put some music to the words? Could be the next Yolngu hit to rival Gurrumul's rising star ).
