Good stuff! I enjoyed this a lot and it is good to see mago mastery getting a hold out there. Keep it up Jason
My only suggestion is to get more harmonic range in the first part of the phrasing. You don't have to play flat, and emphasising some of the higher harmonics would sound really nice. _________________ iDIDJ Australia - Didgeridoo Cultural Hub

Thanks as always Guan
This stick has a nice bassiness to it, which I think actually flattens the higher harmonics a bit.
BTW, this was recorded on a Zoom H-4 field recorder. Nice piece of equipment and one that I will be getting lots of use from. _________________ www.jdidj.com

Hi Jason,
Is there a website showing this Zoom field recorder? It sounds interesting. Is it tape-based or digital?
For the ultimate, check out the Nagra range which Alice Moyle, Sandra Le Brun Holmes et. al. used:
http://www.nagraaudio.com/
The current model which has proved to be popular in the field is the Nagra V, which as I understand it, has been used in Western Arnhem Land including Goulburn Island for field recordings by researchers recently. Take a look at:
http://www.nagraaudio.com/pro/index.php
Costly though with prices staring at AUD$9000. _________________ iDIDJ Australia - Didgeridoo Cultural Hub

That's probably it, but I can 'hear' your tongue moving flat I think. Try to minimise your oral cavity with the first syllable "dit", squeezing in your cheeks and expelling air from the oral cavity. Otherwise, everything sounds good to me _________________ iDIDJ Australia - Didgeridoo Cultural Hub

Yep, all digital. Records to WAV 44.1/48 or MP3 variable up to 320, and stores files to SD cards.
Here's the site: http://www.zoom.co.jp/english/products/h4/index.php

I think you're right- need to get more precision behind the tongue. _________________ www.jdidj.com

Looks good Jason. It must be expensive right?
When working in the field, I started out with a cheap cassette recorder in 1994, a Sony Walkman a year later, then several Minidisc models from then until the late 1990s. After that I switched to using a video camera for all recordings even if it was only for the audio. Because it was digital, it was much like using a DAT recorder. I found it too difficult juggling 4 different things at one time: recording with the DV video camera, taking photographs with my film camera, recording with my audio recorder, and all the while trying to write notes in my field workbook. I don't know how I did it then... I certainly wouldn't try it again. _________________ iDIDJ Australia - Didgeridoo Cultural Hub

A bit more of a muck about! Had me a nice practice today outside and recorded 3 mago:
Ambrose Cameron E
Joe Watson(Latitj Naromi) F#
Russel Brian F#-G
Particularly startling is the different responsiveness between the two F#s. _________________ www.jdidj.com

I agree - they sound good! The Russel Brian is quite a bit more compressed but it is fractionally higher than the Latitj stick. Try and revert to the standard PV more as it seems you're hitting the HPV on most occasions.
